An Early 19th C. Mahogany Wine Cooler or Cellarette. This lovely Sarcophagus Wine Cooler dates from around 1830. It has a tapering body with decorative reeding and stands on wonderful lions paw feet. The interior has its original lead lining, which does have signs of wear and tear.
It is a nice decorative piece and can still be used for storing your favorite bottles of wine or used for other storage purposes.
In solid condition with age related signs of wear and use.
These were considered a status symbol because only the wealthy could afford bottled wine and a dedicated piece of furniture to store it in.
