A highly decorative 1950's  Chinese Tanggu Drum on Stand.  This traditional instrument features hand-painted dragon motifs on both drumheads and sits upon a wooden stand adorned with red, black and gilt lacquered dragons and lotus flowers.  The stand has a lower shelf, and the two wooden playing sticks slot into the very top of the drum section.

The Tanggu drum is a traditional instrument used in Chinese opera orchestras, rituals and ceremonies and is played using 2 wooden sticks.  The striking red and black lacquer decoration on this piece is classically associated with stage instruments.

In nice used condition with vibrant colours. There is some expected wear to the lacquer decoration in places and some of the drum skin studs are missing, but this does not detract from the overall aesthetic.
