A highly decorative 1950's  Chinese Tanggu Drum on Stand.  This Tanguu Drum has hand painted dragon motifs on both drumheads and sits upon a wooden stand with red, black and gilt lacquered decoration of dragons and lotus flowers.  It has a lower shelf and the playing sticks slot into the section at the very top of the drum.
The Tanguu drum is a traditional Chinese drum used in Chinese Opera Orchestras and at rituals and ceremonies and is played using 2 wooden sticks.  The red and black lacquer decoration is associated with stage instruments.
This one is in a nice used condition, the colours still being vibrant, with some wear to the lacquer decoration in places and some of the drum skin studs are missing but this does not detract from the overall aesthetic.
