A highly decorative and large 18th C. Oil on Canvas entitled "Roman Charity: Cimon and Pero.

The story behind the scene is how Pero (the woman in the picture) feeding her father, Cimon, who was starving in prison.

The scene has been depicted by many artists including Rubens and Caravaggio and was a popular subject during the 17th and 18th century.  The artist of this particular painting is unknown but it is well executed.

The canvas has been re-lined and is in overall good condition with a blemish on the robe of Cimon.
